SEGA hat mit der Enthüllung von "Project Needlemouse" ihren neuesten Sonic titel angekündigt: "Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I". Dieser Teil wird ein 2D-Sonic der alten Schule mit 3D Darstellung.
Die Ankündigung ist Teil des "Project Needlemouse", welches im September 2009 von SEGA gestartet wurde. "Needlemouse" war der Codename für das Spiel welches dann zu "Sonic the Hedgehog" wurde.
SEGA gab auch bekannt, dass mit "Project Needlemouse" Sonic zu seinen 2D-Wurzeln zurückkehrt. In diesem Teil wird Sonic der einzige spielbare Charakter sein.
Das Spiel wird nach "Sonic & Knuckles" spielen, jedoch wie "Episode I" zeigt, wird es eine komplett neue Story sein.
Auf die Frage, ob der Titel episodisch sein wird antwortete der Brand Manager Ken Balough:
"As mentioned, I think the best way to view it is as a first part in a much larger adventure. When Sega released Sonic 3, ultimately it was the part 1 of a story that saw its conclusion in Sonic & Knuckles. In that same spirit, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is a bigger story, and this is that first chapter. I think it's also safe to say that by the end of the episode one, fans will be very excited to see what's in store for episode two!"
Auch wird zu den alten klassischen Fähigkeiten die sogenannte "Homing Attack" hinzugefügt.
"Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I" wird diesen Sommer auf PSN, Xbox LIVE Arcade und WiiWare erscheinen. Auch wird es möglich sein auf der Wii mittels Motion-Control und auf der PS3 mit SIXAXIS zu steuern.
